Don't worry Sang... I have no idea whatsoever how Gray's making his bridges. The one I have is so rickety, I'm afraid to ride on the train in case my extra weight makes it all come tumbling down.

Okay Chillum I must admit i'm puzzled .... I studied your pic for MP1L2 for hours now, and reproduced it as close to the original as I could. Result : Hit test and TADAAAA ! 32 BL and the train didn't even showed its blue nose !! :o
Am I doing something wrong or am I doing something wrong ???   :confused:

you're evil :)

yeah, 106 is clean.
it's a really unorthodox design, moves around a lot and comes close to braking, but lasts. i can make it much more stable with a little money, but why? :)

excuse me know, i need to go beat your 102

102 -> 36226
107 -> 122888
112 -> 65120

Sorry, 36226 breaks one link (at least) if you start the train when the bridge reaches the lowest swing point for the first time (Do you really believe I didn't think of shifting the joint up 1 unit? :) )
My 36292 is the best 102 clean bridge so far.

Well, i just hope you don't beat my 105

hey DarkWolfNine, when will we be able to upload bridges to your site?
I have the feeling Gray will discover that about half my records break with some obscure timing or are illegal for some reason..

i can't wait! *sarcasm* :)

I'm a bit tentative with this one. It's not symmetrical, and its mirror image pops a strut on some timings. Still, as I haven't been able to break this one yet, I'm posting it!

MrTaco, I replicated your bridge and it disintegrated completely. Are you sure you're running that on hard?
Title: Map Pack 1 Records
Post by: Gray on November 06, 2001, 06:21:49 PM
It's not completely easy to reproduce, but I did it about 5 times now. I've even made screenshots :) You have to start the train with a medium-fast double click (on my Celeron850, anyway).
My 105 bridge is close, but it breaks a few links - ARGH :)

103 - 71730 Chillum
104 - 27587 Gray
105 - 47848 alcor

113 - 39664 Gray
114 - 66200 arthurdent

All bridges should work on hard, 0 broken links with any train delay (especially pause-reset-start train-unpause).
(arthurdent didn't state that, but I assume his bridges comply to this).

Alcor, I had already built the complete uploading process for bridges to be uploaded, but it was taken down for the moment, as a couple people who I have been showing it to thought that it would be used to copy and tweak existing bridges instead of using your own to beat the record.  I have thought about maybe putting up an email option or so so that if someone thinks that the record shouldn't be there or doesn't believe it, etc. They could get in contact with the record holder.   Otherwise I am not really sure what to do.  The code is in there for the bridge uploading, but I have hidden it for a while.  Without some other ideas as to how to deal with it, I guess we will just have to brainstorm how it would best work for now.

So who'se in charge of making this ruleset up? Should we decide it amongst ourselvs or just use the contest rules?

I remember reading the clean rules on www.bridgebuildergame.com and the not crossing links wasn't there..
But then, if the contest rules apply, the cheaper version of 102 is legit, because ti works with TT and if you let it settle. It's only some misterious timing that makes it break (i still haven't been able to get it to break, Gray)

Hi there!
I just couldn´t take my eyes of Chillum´s beautiful cable-stayed-solution of Lvl 03...
Although I do agree with Gray (the classic arches are way fine too), there can be a lot of beauty in a cable-stayed-bridge, either. :)
So here´s my answer to Level 03:
 (Mod of Chillum´s  bridge)

Going to post it in DWN´s record-site too, so everybody can test it (it´s presumed clean - as far as I can say by now...) ;)

Oh sh.. !
I shouldn´t try to post anything at 1.15 a.m. (GMT+1), especially no new records at DWN´s-record-site...
I did something wrong, and - without any warning - the new record was accepted, but the bridge-file still was missing. For this reason, Level 3 hasn´t got a bridge file for downloading at the moment...
I allready posted it to DarkWolf9, because I hope, he will have better technical means for attaching a file than I had before...
Untill then, everybody can get this file "directly from the author" via eMail (if anybody wants to): just give your request to "G.Hildebrand@gmx.de"

Sorry for this, Gernot.

Also, i have another suggestion.
How many of ther ecord holders would be willing to share their record bridges? That way we can verify that all records comply to the rules, and they'll probably get better tested too.
The only drawback to this that i can see is people not wanting to share their techniques so that they can use them in contests.
I think someone (DarkWing, i think) has a site with a records page. We could have links there to the briges, to download.

Its DarkWolfNine actually.  And I originally made it so people could upload the bridge when they edited the record.  But it was taken out for the moment.   (Just waiting for Gray to go into his lecture. heh)

BTW, you can view the Records at http://www.phantomtech.info/pontifex/RecordDetails.asp?sPackName=MapPack1 (http://www.phantomtech.info/pontifex/RecordDetails.asp?sPackName=MapPack1)

As it stands There are 4 different Map Series' that are entered.  Normal, Complex, MapPack1, and mine (DWNPack1)  I have spots available for records on different difficulties as well.  It might be interesting to see how cheap you could get bridges on Easy or Normal.  Anyways, the code is built for it, but if you guys don't like the idea, it might be dropped.

Let me know,

DarkWolfNine

heh.

After a few more "optimizations" I got the bridge down to . Same standards as above.

All right Chillum, now yer upsetting me. =)  Not only are ya building insanely cheap bridges but even when I've a picture in front of me of one of yers I can't get it built for the same cost or the train across it...hmmph.

mp10 - 64320

Just to keep the competition going :-)

I had one a little cheaper, looked great right up until the fourth pass, then the whole thing keeled over and plummeted into the abyss...hate it when they do that!

Are you sure your 106 is clean (3 passes)? I had difficulties preventing my designs from starting to shake... only managed 22962 now, ARGH :)

Still wondering how Alcor got 15744 to work...

Chillum, if you want to see how i did it, email me at briantho@mindspring.com

These are my amounts of cash for each level:

EDIT: the arrows point to new versions

1: 71328 -> 67488
2: 58618 -> 54082
3: 100166 -> 91882
4: 40884
5: 47848
6: 26630
7: 164526 -> 164570 yeah, it's more, but it looks better this way :)
8: 36670
9: 111140 -> 106212
10: 93338 -> 82864
11: 122490
12: 92288 -> 90224
13: 42300
14: 76776 -> 71012
15: 215464
16: 307912

Now show me yours :)

I also have a suggestion for ChronicLogic:
Would it be possible to give us a little space on this server where we could upload bridges to show other people, or maps, a screenshot, etc? I think something as small as 100k would be more than enough.
Hope you'll consider it :)

Do you mean your 77716 bridge? That's much more expensive than the record. If you got a better bridge, then what's its cost?

Are your bridges 'clean' (0 broken links)? Please tall us which of those got broken links, otherwise there's no point in comparing the prices.

I'm really quite sad about this :( as far as I know, Gray's previous record was the last remaining 'traditional' arch bridge. Maybe they'll make a comeback in Pontifex II?

Chillum, either you're inhuman, or i really suck :) or you have some secret ninja techique for level 3 .. i've been trying for a few hours to get it under your 79554$, and i'm starting to get the impression the bridge is mocking me.. or it might just be the lack of sleep..   aaanyway, you also inspired me to redo my level 2 to beat your score, and that one did work out.. anyway, here are my updated scores:

1:   57540
2:   41959
3:   88106
4:   28500
5:   47848
6:   24076
7:   162814
8:   36670
9:   106212
10: 80030
11: 122490
12: 70194
13: 41596
14: 69600
15: 215464
16: 307912

I've redone most of my other ones to beat yours, Gray :)

all except 8 (i don't know how you could use the solution from 6), and i didn't even bother redoing 11, it's too ugly to concentrate on right now.

As a side note, i'm getting cable this wednesday morning, so i'll put up a page with screenshots and bridge files in a few days, and i'll probably host other people's bridges too, if they need space.

Purely for the sake of having a downloadable record for this level, I made this:

115: 141722

I'm absolutely certain it can be improved, and anyone willing to put the time in on this loathsome abomination is more than welcome to the record. Gah!

I've applied my "secret ninja technique" :-) to a few more bridges. Here's the levels where I think I'm beating you alcor....

3:   79554
9:   90754
10: 73336
13: 41324

Don't worry, I really suck at suspension bridges! I must be missing something...

I had this yesterday, but I wanted to improve it further... Now I see it will be a very short-lived record (I think the cable approach has more potential), so I've uploaded it... long live the arch bridges! :)
P.S. Surprised me to see how close the prices of the two bridges are...
