Title: Third Contest!
Post by: Gray on February 26, 2002, 01:31:29 PM
OK, you've probably read the announcement already, so for those who overlooked it: Read it :)

@ChronicLogic:
I think the next contest should be a bit different (special rules/prizes or something)...

On a side note, now that it starts so soon, it occured to me that I could lose my shiny new title before I even get used to it ;) So, like I suggested, pleeeeeze let me keep it for all my Eternal Life  and let Calis have his for all eternity, too.... Man this is so funny.... Eternal Maximissimuses :o

Hmm... Now I'm starting to get unhappy again...

Wow, hardly time to draw breath! :o

At the risk of seeming a little ungrateful (I'm not, really!), it does seem a little unfair on Gray et al to have so short a reign (assuming different results next time around).

Personally I think one contest a month would be about right...this would also allow them to start on the same day each month, so even people who don't regularly check in here would know when the next one was due.

On the other hand, at least this gives me a quick shot to regain some kind of title!

hmmm, this seems to be a tricky one. I have a very expensive bridge that works with no broken links, and a cheaper one that also works except that it breaks 60 links while settling... I wish there was some facility for allowing a bridge to settle without breaking!

The next contest will address the issue allowing bridges to be built for cheaper when the train runs through the water.  If everyone is not ready for a contest yet we can wait a bit before we run it.  Our web page is going to get an upgrade as well as our web host, so we are pretty busy, I just thought we would throw another contest at everyone to keep you guys happy :)  I will see how all the web stuff goes and plan the next contest around it.

Hey - I wouldn't mind a contest every two weeks :-)
Once a month on a regular schedule seems like a good compromise, though.

HOW soon?

Once a month is ok, that's not too often and on the other hand not too seldom.

Downloaded the 3rd contest level.
Not really happy yet :). The level is different (I think that's good), but the rules are the same as for contest No. 2 (except that now we have more time for the building)... Even the prizes are the same (ran out of funny ideas, CL? ;) )

Happiness = Hall of Fame + more website updates...

The web host change seems to take some time ('several months' would be no exaggeration IMO). Looks like CL has run into difficulties there or... who knows?

once a month... sounds reasonable  to me. Maybe we can do it on a regular schedule? (like starting every first  Wednesday each month?)

I wouldnt bother a longer build phase, too... maybe 2 weeks to the deadline? What do others think?

Actually we are not waiting on another web host, we are working on redesigning the web page, when that is finished we will switch web hosts.  The web page has not gone down or gotten hacked in quite some time, because we have worked out some of the issues with our current web host.  Its working fine for our current page.  Also believe it or not we are currently working on a number of other things that keep us very busy, if you have great ideas for contests you could always make a contest.

Don't worry about it. Updates to the web site would more than keep us happy. =)

Just got the 3rd contest level and I think it is time to start discussing wet trains and structures touching the ground ;)

Plain and simple:
1. Are 'wet trains' allowed?
(if not, what exactly is considered a forbidden wet train?)

2. Is it ok to have structure touching the ground?

Regarding contest rules I think both is allowed. They
only require zero broken links and train doesnt go through structure doing the required number of passes, right?

I also think wet trains are OK by the rules. But how do you make something touch the ground with 0 broken links?
