Title: Buildings Construction New Release

BCS is a great game because it gives the player the freedom of construction and design of  individual structures. I like it so much, even the name of the game Bridge Construction, doesn't restrict the player of designing buildings (their structural design). That is why I expect from the developers of the game, the next release to be more innovative with materials and more concentrated of buildings and other structures. For example I would suggest materials like concrete and reinforcement and glass.
I expect the new release of the game because I am definitely  sure that there is no other similar game on the market. But imagine how exciting would be to design and test your own structures like bridges, houses, buildings etc. If you guys know similar game for what I  am suggesting like a game and software in one, please let me know.
I've already designed some building structures except bridges, and I would say that they look like real buildings, and it is a quite exciting to expand the game capabilities.
If you are interested over my suggestions please feel free to add comments and suggestions, if you need to see for what I am talking about I can send you game files with other structures except bridges.

Just like you, mikkall,  I like to make buildings. This is my first post, so I hope the images will be displayed correctly.

For Josiah: First, excellent work! I bought BCS only two weeks ago and I am really impressed. As you can see I am using this program for a purpose it was not originally written for. That is why I am reaching the maximum number of beams beyond which the program crashes pretty fast. Especially when making such large buildings. I am afraid that adjusting this maximum will be too much work for a patch, as the format of the .pfb files will probably also have to be changed to make this possible, guessing from what I can see in a hex-editor.

But how about making it a new game? I wouldn't mind at all to pay another 20$ for an adjusted version of BCS. And BCS does not need much big adjustments to make an excellent "Building Construction Set". Apart from the maximum number of beams it would be nice to be able to rotate a part you are copying in 90 degree steps, so you can get all symetry you want in combination with the "flip X' option. Also the option to rotate the entire "world" in 90 degree steps would make 3D construction easier for asymetric buildings like the image below. Now it is tricky to edit the backside. And maybe 1 new material: concrete, which can take a lot of pressure but little tension.

As far as I can judge, using my own programming knowledge, the last adjustments are not so tricky. For me, I prefer to have a fast program, it doesn't have to look fancy. And it also doesn't neccesarily have to be a game with levels you have to solve. Personally I like the free-format building.

Please think about this, guessing from what I can read on this forum I think a lot of people are interrested and want to make bigger things with BCS.

A building here in town, which has a kidney like shape seen from the top with an oval core:


A round tower. Just like the building above the segmented floors are supported by vertical pieces of heavy steel and cables, in order to span the distance between the core of the building and the outer pillars/wall.

The sphere was so nice I decided to put it on top of a tower:



It needed some reinforcement of the lower half. Otherwise the sphere broke when gravity was switched on at the beginning of the simulation. Left one on the bottom dropping to the ground and breaking apart.



The previous one was a few hours work. After this one I wanted to build a very big dome, but I am lazy, so I wrote a program to generate a dome for me and put it directly into an empty .pfb file. (maybe I was wrong in my previous post about the need to adjust the layout of the .pfb files in order to be able to make bigger structures) This is the result, a dome with a diameter of 160 gridlines, built of heavy steel. No beams are longer than 8.5 gridlines, because I don't want to break too many rules. ;-)



Giving it a shake with an earthquake and it wil break apart:

Those are amazing work!  I was going to say it would take a long time to build that with the editor :(  Those turned out perfect, glad to see people doing such creative stuff with BCS.

hello

I am posting my comments about the new release of BCS here because I think that this is very interesting topic, which could bring BCS into new game/software never before seen. The new update is really improved in terms of faster game play but the game crashes when building bigger projects. For example I noticed that if a project exceed the budget above 400,000 and when you test the structure the game crashes. But what about the complete new reform of the game I talk about buildings, complex structures new materials and more realistic testing. I think that many people would be interested in and I foreseen that as the first game/software created in that nature. I would suggest many improvements as engineering student but I'll encourage others interested to post their suggestions and comments. I would say that I've never seen before so inspiring game than BCS it is a complete masterpiece, which I believe will be further developed in the near future.

Nice design high-rise using tube bundle, it is very easy to create very high tower when you design and collect small thin buildings into one. Use the copy and paste.
