Gish Editor / My Egyptian Mine

I like it, and visually it's one of the more polished user levels I've seen.

It was easy and fun, so the gameplay was good, and the vehicles were a nice touch. If I were to criticize I'd say: (1) The BG needs more detail, for example you could put more BG objects and also vary the bricks that make the walls (like in the real game), and (2) it needs some seeeeecrets, unless there were some but I missed it.

Overall, great level, keep them coming http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Gish Editor / Making turnstiles

No, I'll put it in my next level.

I only have 1 completed level so far, but I spent *ages* on it. It takes about 10 minutes to play through http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

This may have been done before but if you make 2 platforms with a hinge on top of each other, and make one horizontal and one vertical, and then join the corners up with invisible bars, you make a 'turnstile' object which is quite fun to play on.

I tried to adapt it to make some primitive gears but haven't perfected that yet http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

Gish Editor / Tilesets

Oh... I thought tilex was some kinda tile making program http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

I was looking at the tile files a minute ago. I don't have any program which will edit .tga files... I suppose I need an art program or something.

Gish Editor / Tilesets
April 15, 2005, 06:12:45 PM
Forgive my noobishness - I have tackled all the regular aspects of level making very nicely and will post at least 2 very involved and detailed custom levels soon, but I'd like to know how to add my own tiles. From what one of you said a while ago, it seems the tileset you make in the tileset editor is saved with the level, including images, so how would I go about importing my own graphics in here?

I'd like to modify some existing tiles (to make different gradients), and also make (or aquire/rip/download) some new level themes.

Particularly I want an Icy tileset, Imagine the fun you could have with that, setting the friction on all the icy blocks to really low  http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'> . Also I'd like a Futuristic looking tileset like Scrap Brain Zone from Sonic. I mean, considering all the devices you can build with pistons and objects etc, I think that theme would work well. Either that or something mechanical and clockwork-looking, maybe with animated gearwheels for the background.

Gish Editor / Tile properties

When you edit a tile, you can enter things like the breakpoint, damage factor, friction etc... Well I was thinking, how about having a value for movement in here to, for example so you could make tiles which act as conveyors. The animation feature is also perfect for making conveyors. You could use them to move Gish or heavy objects. I don't know if the programmers are interested in new ideas but I thought I'd mention this as it seems vaguely simple.

Gish Editor / Sequencing Levels
April 15, 2005, 06:18:46 PM
As I may have said, I'm redesigning all the gish levels to be longer and a bit hard and more involved than the default levels. I thought I saw something mentioned about CL making an app to sequence your own levels into a 'levelpack'. That would rock so hard. If they are going to go down this route I'd like to suggest some features:

(1) The ability to LOCK the levels with a password, so you can never load them into the editor without it.
(2) The original game levels should also be locked. Otherwise any secrets and other facts about the level are easily seen.
(3) Some kind of thingy which counts how many coins you've collected, so if you have a certain amount you can play a bonus level or some kind of extra level with nice things on it. This is basically to encourage the players to find your secrets.

That's it. What do you guys think?  http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Gish Editor / Upside down spikes

So are extra tiles saved in the level or something?

There's a user made level called 'darkness.lvl' that uses some special slanted tiles that aren't anywhere in the normal tiles either. http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

Edit: church1 also contains 251-255. http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

I take it these are the tiles that make the special thin funnel that is exclusive to this level.

How about tile 109 in tileset 0?

I saw those but they aren't the spikes I'm looking for, I need them to be triangular as those jagged ones are too easy to get caught up in when playing.

Um... *rummages*

Sewer3.lvl and Hell5.lvl... Maybe a few more that I don't remember. I really hope in the future there's a way to save tilesets with levelsets so I can make my own tiles and edit existing ones... I have loads of ideas in this department.

This is freaky, the upside down spikes and wall spikes are only used on a few levels but I can't see them in any of the tilesets of the 7 you get to choose from.

Veh, I think we have our monitor set too dark or something.

Gish Editor / My first levels!

I played them both a few days ago. 'Fragile' was way too dark... I put my monitor into ultra bright mode to play gish since it's so dark and atmospheric, but even this level barely shows up as a trace. Also there was tremendous slowdown at the beginning which is unusual for this computer.

'Avalanche' was a nice level but a little too short and simple, and lacking any nice details that make a level come to life.

These are good for first levels, though. It seems like you're just getting to grips with the editor like me.
