Thanks, that's appreciated.
The 800 pg review covers hundreds of map, so with a screenshot of the battlefield, with descriptions, download links and possible tactics to either stay alive or win, you can see why it's so long.  I'm adding an help section so that those less computer friendly can improve system spec's so as to run more bots on each map as well as a wealth of other info.  I won't go on about it though as it's not Gish, lol.

I hope you will be able to get it working again soom man.  I wont ask for any explanation though as it does sound personal.  Thanks for all you're replies.  It looks like there's still some life left in this fantastic game afterall.  Can you explain why it's not available from most download sites? It seems crazy as it's such a good  and unusual game. And with the addition of an editor, there's so much potential to expand the game into other realms.  such as the 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth' idea I mentoned elsewhere.

I am still around here, although I've been quite passive for a while. I have answered editor questions almost immediately after the editor was released, and I have made some of the more unusual creations. Does that make me experienced with the editor?

I've been wondering for a while what it's like to be color blind. I understand the theory, but that can't get me much further than not being able to distinguish between colors on what I'll call color blindness lines, or making color blindness test images.

It's no big deal really.  And yes you are obviously a community member that i'll be asking lots of questions, some pertinent and some probably stupid.  I hope that you will give me input on the proposed update to the manual that I've proposed and already made a very slow start on. Any useful information about anything Gish, whether it's advice on movement through the levels, using vehicles and making them as well as the in's and out's of the Gish editor, secrets and anything else remtely Gish.

What for example is your opinion on whether or not I should designe a new level in the spirit of the graphics as they stand now, or something a little more photo realistic.  I am a noob at Gish as yet.  I still only spend a very small % of my time with Gish because of the other projects I'm working on, but hopefully most of these apart from beta testing maps for BF2 and 2142 will be completed by Spring time. From the first moment I loaded up the demo of Gish I new I was hooked and bought it right away.  I didn't know there was a whole bunch of fan made levels which was a big bonus.

Just let your son. If the initial attempt didn't work, don't expect later attempts to work. Apparently he enjoys playing games this way at the moment, and I think interference is unlikely to do anything good or in the direction you intend. He might eventually get bored and decide to play games the 'normal' way. Nothing is better than getting there (or not) without interference.

Regarding the cheats in Gish, they're not particularly cheaty, in that they tend not to make it ludicrously easy (;-)).

True,  Thanks, your absolutely right.

What you're proposing is a great idea, and would make a great addition to the manual I'm writing.  If this thread takes off which I hope it does as I'm also a noob with Gish. Thanks man

Hey guys.  Please explain what and how your accomplishing this what it is that seems to be a revelation.  The reason I ask is that I want to write a better user friendly manual for Gish and any info however small that will add to the workings and uses of the editor would be really welcome and appreciated.  All contributions will be acknowledged. Thanks

That's a shame as a whole new set of boards and themes would have been fantastic, however I'm sure it will come about eventually.  Good games are always updated at some point.  Gish makes such a welcome change from the run of the mill games such as shoot em ups, arkanoids, jezzballs and a whole host of other arcade games.
As I said I'm really busy with the BF2 review right now, but will slowly get the information together to make an improved manual.  I must also try my hand at level editing.  It's a pity the guys who made all those excellent addon levels seem to have given up.  It just takes new blood to get interest going again.  We shall see.

(I was hit from behind by a speeding car while cycling to work.  They were racing onto the motorway which I just happened to be approaching.  Man I flew god knows how many meters.  I remember thinking to my self while I was still airborne: "Ow that hurt....pause...damn I'm going to get run over when I land"... so you can imagine i would have gone a fair way. Anyway I'm still alive and I didn't lose the use of my legs thankfully, but the pain is unbearable at times.  Hence the morphine)

There is one thing they left out. RUBBER BANDS are in the rope editor as number 0! I dont think they have any textures, though, meaning they are invisible, but I am still experimenting with them... ':p' '' '' ':O'

Thanks for that info.

Once I finish writing my Battlefield 2 review I must start on a manual for Gish as it's a fantastic game.  The instructions are appaling though.  I've already started taking screenshots of all the textures and block and will include a library of these in the manual, along with lots of other ideas I've been thinking of.  It'll take quite a while though as I'm drugged up to the eyeballs with morphine due to breaking my back in four places following a cycling accident.  So I'm asleep most of the time, lol.  Still I'll eventually make a user friendly manual which I reckon will be a useful addition.  I don't understand why Gish isn't available from most game outlets as it's really fun and addictive, also considering it won prizes for it's originality a few years ago.

I wonder how easy it is to make new textures and shapes.  I have photoshops so I think I have the tools. I was thinking of designing an underground cave system on the lines of journey to the centre of the earth,  but that'll be a project for after the manual.

Is this level still available, because the link in the first post doesn't work any more?

My son keeps asking me for cheat codes, but I tell him they are only for when you are really stuck on a level and are unable to progress, which usually results in the game being dumped. I found him googling for cheats the following day, lol.
He seems to cheat in every game he plays, and I've been trying to instil in him what cheating really means, and that games are made hard to challenge our brains.  He hasn't got the message yet though. (He sailed through a break out game that I'm still stuck on near the beginning, but only because he cheated to get through them. I asked him whats the point and he replied, I like winning;  but i said cheating isn't winning, whereupon, he stormed off saying i didn't understand.  Lol

I'll lay off the cheats as I think it just takes away the challenge and the playability.  My reasoning being that after I haven't played a game for several months I know there will still be new content that I haven't found, so I soon get back into the game.  I'm still playing the second version of doom because i haven't found all the secrets lol (only very occasionaly though as I find the blocky graphics awful now, even though when it was first released it was state of the art.

I've had to copy and paste your posts into a word document then change the color to black to read them.  I really can't read them otherwise.  Thanks for the list of characters.
