...and I have to discagree with Fivecentfather. Those issue must be fixed by the developers.

Well, I would LOVE that they got fixed, but I just don't see much hope of it.

...but with the current issue and exploits, I would not bother. so i might just complete all stages and then dump the game.

And how would that bother the developers? They already got their money. People are still "competing" for the world record slots, regardless of the stupidity of the bridges created. It simply doesn't behove them to do so financially.

We can always have hope, though.

Thank you, Fletch for "confessing" and letting the rest of us regular folk in on the "secrets" of the game. I knew it had to be something like this, but didn't realize how deep the problems were.

I had a feeling non-mirrored construction was important, but had no idea just how far you could take it. I agree that there is definitely a problem if you can have a bridge completely unsupported on one side. Let's see how that would work in the real world. :)

However, it's the second "issue" that really irritates me. There shouldn't even be a way to remove the support from under decking without the whole thing falling into the chasm. That's like building with slabs of unsupported asphalt. It's a completely ridiculous oversight that people are exploiting to appear smarter. I wonder if there is any difference in strength between decking built with wood and the wood removed vs. decking built with steel and the steel removed. Would be an interesting thing to test.

Like you said about the third issue, though, I don't think that is an exploit. In fact, I recall in the more challenging bridges in past games, laying the decking ON the road or having supports that simply touched the bottom with no actual anchor were absolutely necessary to even complete the bridges. I often thought such constructs silly because they would never hold up in "real life", but since it was a game, and these were fantasy scenarios, I forgave them the craziness of the physics involved. However, this "feature" combined with the exploits above make the whole world records thing a joke.

Since I don't really expect these things to be fixed, I'll simply ignore the whole "records" thing and just be satisfied with making bridges that look good and would actually work in the real world. I'll leave the glory to the "cheaters".

Thanks again for your candor.

I cry foul on the World Record numbers. On the first urban bridge it is reported that several  people finished the bridge with only SEVEN pieces. That won't even build decking, let alone any support structure. Either the record recording feature is bugged or has been hacked.

However, if I'm wrong, someone please post how to build a successful bridge with seven pieces.

OK, after a short hiatus, I'm BAAAAACK....

Complex 7 is giving me fits again.  I can't figure out what to do with the back anchors (if anything).  I can make a fairly stable structure utilizing the ten heavy steel beams, but it still keeps breaking right in the middle no matter what I do.

Help!!

OK. I finished the level.  Here is the correct order of events:

A. A truck passes from the bottom right to the top left.

B. Hydraulics phase.

C. A truck passes from the bottom right to the bottom left.

D. Hydraulics phase.

E. A truck passes from the top left to the top right while the boat passes underneath. (The truck had a tendancy to fall THROUGH the roadway on me.)

F. Hydraulics phase.

G. A truck passes from bottom left to bottom right and a car passes from top left to top right. (The car also sometimes flew off the road -- crazy driver)

I scored about 5000 pts which is not spectacular, but not too bad.  I was pleased with my solution.

If the truck in phase 5 moves across the bottom road from left to right when the road is down (first image), how does it get through the roadway?  Again, I must be missing something.

Well, your design is cool, but I must be missing something.  How can the truck move back to the right (phase 5) with the top road down (hydraulics at rest) and blocking the route from left to right?

OK, this makes my head hurt just trying to figure out what has to happen at the same time.

During the resting phase of the hydraulics a truck has to go from bottom right UP to top left, AND a truck has to pass from bottom left to bottom right, somehow passing through the roadway the truck going up is traveling on.

During the activated phase of the hydraulics a truck has to drive from bottom right to bottom left OVER the boat AND a truck traveling from top left must drop down onto the roadway to exit on the bottom right AND a car coming from the top right (going TO the left) has to drop down onto the roadway and exit to the top left.

This seems nigh impossible, especially without cables to make swinging structures.

I'm gonna have to think on this one for awhile before I even start building anything.

Let me know if there is anything I'm missing/have wrong.

Awesome.  That round one is pretty complex all right.  I went with the triangle version.  I was pretty close to that one, but didn't have those double reinforced corners.  Another lesson there.

OK. I made it past that one, and the next three.  Now I'm on Complex 6, and I am at a loss to understand what I'm supposed to do.

Some clarification of the direction and orientation of the vehicles would be helpful for knowing what to build where.

The description says, "Using iron, steel and hydraulics, build a bridge to pass a complex 7 phase test.  A truck drives from the bottom right to the top left tunnel.  Then, a truck drives between the two bottom tunnels and a boat passes underneath. A truck then moves back across the bottom, a truck travels back down and finally a car drives across the top."

My questions:
Does the 2nd truck pass by AT THE SAME TIME the boat is going under?

Which direction do the 2nd, 3rd and 4th trucks travel?

Which direction does the final car go?

How many times are the hydraulics triggered in the test, and when does that happen?

Thanks for all the help.  I'm almost done with this game.  Gonna get BCS at the end of the week.

I finished Pontifex and BCS will be next after I'm done with this one.

Now I'm stumped on Complex 2.  It's another iron one, and these just seem to get me.  Iron can barely hold itself up, let alone anything else.  http://pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>

I tried something similar to your first solution, but couldn't quite get it to work.  Your 2nd solution is awesome, in that it doesn't look like it would even work.  Again, it's that lack of cross pieces that makes that work.  Good job.

Thanks so much.  It was the lack of crossbars in those middle sections that made all the difference.  It both reduced the weight and gave just enough money to add a bit more support on the ends.  Excellent job.  I'll have to keep that crossbar thing in mind on future projects.

I hope people are still monitoring these boards after so long, but these are new games to me, and I'm loving 'em.

I finished Pontifex first, and now I'm working on Bridge It!

I am having a terrible time with Hard 6, the bridge made with only iron.  I just can't get enough strength to make the distance no matter how I build things.  I've tried having the road arch up, arch down.  I've tried rectangles, triangles, and nothing seems to work.

I would sure appreciate a push in the right direction (or even a picture of the solution. http://pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'> )

Thanks.
