Next Version Ideas / Music
October 18, 2001, 05:14:41 PM
I'd like to see some really subtle background music... some creatively inspiring music. I realize that CL probably doesn't have any musicians onboard (yet), and they probably don't want to license someone else's tunes, but it'd be nice to see.

I realize that I can play my own MP3s or whatever in the background, but I don't think that listening to stuff like rock or hip-hop really helps to get the creativity flowing http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Call me crazy, but I'd actually like to see some mediocre, SUBTLE music in there!

Next Version Ideas / No more asymmetric anchors!

If you turned off the rendering of the bridge, it wouldn't really be much faster.  The speed of the physics calculations is by far the limiting factor of your performance.

What do you mean "when and if we make one." http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'> You guys can't stop improving on Pontifex!!! Many of us depend on this great game to keep our brains stimulated. Actually, if you come up with a better idea for a different game, I might be able to forgive you;-) So, come on CL guys, give us a little bit of a teaser. . . What type of game are you pondering for your Sophmore effort???

Next Version Ideas / FULL 3D building

Great idea. But I think it is better first add these "minor" adjustments like new materials, ships etc.

Problems / Physics bugs
October 14, 2001, 05:39:17 PM
A couple of bugs in the physics engine...

1) If a box has every possible vertex connected, then it self-destructs.

2) If you hang an object from a long cable, then it seems to have a LOT of force exerted on it for no reason. Try building a large tower, then hanging a cable with something on the end of it. Usually the object on the end of the cable will break.

General Discussion / My bridges
October 24, 2001, 07:57:51 AM
Like I mentioned earlier, I think it would be interesting to see exactly how everyone went through the levels, and what styles of bridges they used.

If anyone would like to see how I went through the normal levels, here are 2 .zip files with my bridges from the two separate times I went through the normal levels.

The second .zip is the second time through, and I tried to avoid the use of suspension bridges wherever possible. It is also much more optimized than the first time, and the bridges (for the most part) cost less.

The easiest way to use these files is to back up your "bridge" folder, then extract the files into the original "bridge" folder, overwriting files. Then all you have to do is 'Start Game' and select each level to see how I did it.

Wow, that was a long post for a fairly simple plan.

Have fun! I'd be much obliged if others followed my example and posted their bridges!

General Discussion / .ZIPs of your bridges
October 18, 2001, 07:11:23 PM
I think it would be interesting to get people posting a .zip of all their bridge designs. It's always fun to see what everyone else is doing, and it often leads to assimilating some new design styles that you can use in future bridges.

I'd start the ball rolling by posting mine here, but I need some webspace first. What's a good service that provides no-hassle (ie. no off-site linking) use?
