General Discussion / Triptych...

Methinks the corners have an insensitive area to keep a checkerboard pattern from charging up when it is lightly compressed - haven't checked this assumption thoroughly yet, though.

New Levels / Few new levels

Liked the levels, didn't like the budgets. Cutting them so close discourages experimenting; the budget should be about twice your best price, in my opinion. You can state your goal in the description ("you really should get this bridge below ")... the way it is now, I'll just switch to level edit tpo raise the budget to allow me to experiment.

New Levels / Few new levels

Still think that the budget should be looser; if I hadn't beaten cheap03 seriously under budget (with no extra effort), I never would have tried to coax cheap04 lower than, say, 񘈨 under budget. Turns out both can be done at less than 80% of the budget.
Nice little thinkers. Thanks Paul.

New Levels / New Levels Rail Track
December 15, 2001, 09:31:52 PM
From the level editor manual available on this site:There is also a [Rail] button, which is used to put in the rail texture.  To place the texture, change the editfrwd and editback values to 1 and 0 respectively, and make sure that your editing plane is in the middle of your level.  Now when you select [Rail], you will notice that when you change the texture, the rail will be superimposed over the texture.  The rail will not affect game-play in any way, but it certainly makes your levels look cooler.
If you still have problems, please ask a more specific question.

New Levels / IMPORTANT: Level Designers

Please, please, please, falkon, can I have slot 10?
It's for a 10x10 grid, so the name would be really mnemonic.
(I need to measure things exactly, so I made a meter grid).

I really don't mind if anyone redesigns this totally as long as it's still a 10x10 grid to measure by http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

New Levels / bridge builder

And I think a small prog could be coded that did this automatically if one would just sit down and document the Pontifex file format. Email me for BB file format docs if you plan to do this. (Hint: Not everything 32-bit is an Integer :-)

If anyone cares, I'll have you know I have the PXB and PXL file formats down to about the last 8 bytes... at offset 0x174-17B in *.pxl and 0x294-29B in *.pxb - these might be a checksum or a timestamp, I don't know yet.

So why did it take you a full month to notice this post? ;-)
Welcome to the forum!

Miscellaneous / "General Discussion" forum posts
February 05, 2002, 08:03:37 AM
I wanted to post a new addition to the "You know you're a Pontimaniac..." thread and couldn't - the General forum is devoid of posts.
Hey Ben, I can understand that you don't like criticism, but to take out the whole forum is a bit much! ;) Or which stupid hacker did it this time? Was it just a refernece set wrongly? Enquiring minds want to know!
