Kingdom Elemental Support / Bug?
January 09, 2007, 10:55:48 PM
I know, probably already discovered, but for the record:

I tried to skeleton a fading corpse, triggered the cooldown, but got no skeleton.

And my only personal quibble worth mentioning:  the camera spin direction feels backwards.

Kingdom Elemental Support / Bug?
January 08, 2007, 03:14:39 AM
It seems that units to be placed "spawn" at the front center of the placeable area. If I placed two units next to each other at the forward of the green box, the following units I went to place would initially have their shadow "stuck" up in front/between the first two units, though I found I was able to move my mouse up by the shadow, and pull it along the front to one side or the other, and get it out to wherever I wanted to place it.  So no huge deal, it seems.

I might have gotten another bug where I got stuck placing a unit, but I haven't figured out repro yet.  (it had to do with trying to unplace a unit, and getting it stuck to my cursor with no shadow on the field, and then I was only able to exit to menu at that point) This may be related to the previous- perhaps when I placed a unit front and center, the next one got stuck before it even appeared, or something like that.  I might post if I figure out anything concrete.

Otherwise, pretty interesting.  I've had fun with a few different strategies, and might consider buying.  We'll see.

Since this is the only thread I've found, here's my feedback.  I only have a few details, most of which you've likely already noticed.

First, especially as you get near the green, the hole, and ball, and stroke, and wind, and everything get really confusing on the map.  Some kind of zoom/toggle, an extra or alternate wind indicator, and maybe even further alpha action should clear that up.

Second, when you're in swing mode, it would be great to have a look button, that would hold the club stationary and pivot the view up a-la right-after-a-stroke.  Many times I've overshot a putt because jumping in and out of swing mode just was too abrupt.  Hey, an alternative solution would be gradual pivot down when entering swing mode,  (a reverse right-after-a-stroke) which would be a simpler and more elegant fix imo.

Third, this game desperately needs a warning regarding mouse tracking and surfaces, as I currently have the urge to smash both of mine with a rather unwieldly hammer.  (it's a good thing I stopped keeping one of those around the house)

Loving it.  Can't wait for my friend to get back from vacation and put on a lan party.  A quirky ambient industrial trip something soundtrack (or something) might do wonders.  Just a little more basic ambience and sfx would probably cover it though.  Dare I ask for some canned heckling or other such lines?

Ok, I'll be back someday after I've had a chance to trounce all my mates on the "green".

General Discussion / Who has beat Gish?
June 17, 2004, 01:18:45 AM
I've beat it now.  The scariest part is if you've met girls like that.

Is the other ending any funner?

And now I can begin finding all the secrets and collecting all the amber...

You don't need lamps to do that, just a really gradual fall.  Had it happen accidentally even.  On the first level, it's really easy.

I went and got myself a game pad for better control, and while working on getting myself Gish, a friend and I got creative with the demo versus game.  It took us at least an hour to do this, (or rather figure out how,)  but I think it was worth the effort...

Like it?  Think you can do it?  Top it?

Just thought I'd share.

General Discussion / Hate World 3?
June 17, 2004, 07:15:38 AM
I started my second run through, trying to find all the little things I could, and I found a warp to world 4.  (there is a God!  And a nice level designer)

I saw something happen that seemed slightly different than all the other times, and I thought "I bet I could..." and after a couple of tries I made it!  And then down, down, down I went...

Very relieving, as I'd had my fill of lava and spikes the first time through.

General Discussion / play speed

The very end of the movie with the swings over lava runs at normal speed.  (I believe)  Watch the timer for the best clue.

General Discussion / play speed
June 07, 2004, 08:02:28 PM
So, I couldn't help but notice the movie gameplay demo footage running at something like 2x normal.  (right?)  And since it looked so incredibly cool and exciting, I have to ask:  What are the chances of getting to play the game, or even a small part of it, at faster than "normal" speed?  I realize that movie was probably just sped up, but it seems like running around at that rate would feel so responsive and exciting.  Though I could also imagine that speed making the game that much more difficult for a beginner.

So, maybe an option in the future?  An editor feature (fingers crossed) when that comes out?  Or is there some other issue like physics modeling that would make speeding up difficult, impossible, or extremely processor intensive and undesirable?

I guess that's it for right now...
