About Pontifex:
Pontifex is a bridge building game in which you designs and tests bridges. Pontifex uses a complex physics engine which allows the construction of many different types of bridges. Once the design is completed, you can test the strength of the bridge by sending a train across it. Depending on the quality of the bridge's design, the train will either pass over it safely or plummet into the river below. The 3D engine lets the player view their bridge from any angle, including a first-person train view. Many different levels are included, from simple to complex, and a level editor lets you make your own levels to trade with other people.

Edit:  As of version 1.2.2 the BridgeItOptions.txt file is now located in the "BridgeIt" folder in your "Documents" folder.  Also all the video options can now be changed from the Options menu in the game.

Open the file "BridgeItOptions.txt" and change the settings:

To Set initial screen resolution. Enable one of the possible values below by removing the # sign in front of it:

#-1024

Enable this option to run BridgeIt in a window as opposed to fullscreen:

#-Windowed


Add these options if you Bridge It is running slowly:

-GlobalTextureResolution=1
-TextureResThreshold=512

Then save the file and start Bridge It.  If you delete the file Bridge It settings will be reset to default and the file will be rewritten with these settings.

Kingdom Elemental version 1.4 is now up with a updated demo and full version.  Notice the name has been changed to Kingdom Elemental Tactics.  We have made some major changes which have improved KE:Tactics substantially.  Here is a list of the changes that have been made since the last version:

-Changed name to Kingdom Elemental Tactics.
-Changed some story text to match the story voice.
-Fixed clicking on the pause or play button after completing a round and before starting the next round that would cause a crash.
-Fixed bug when the target for summon skeleton is up when a round ends which caused the next round to start with half the units red and you unselectable on the interface bar.
-Updated readme.txt.
-Added new Firestorm sound.
-Updated credits for new voice actors.
-Added Key to toggle mouse inversion ( I Key).
-Fixed bug if you target a unit that is out of range with a skill, and then that creature dies before you can use the skill, your unit will target another creature with the skill.
-Fixed bug which would select dead units by using a skill like res or summon skeleton while paused and then right clicking on the ground and clicking on a dead unit on the interface bar.
-Fixed double interface bug on the interface bar where unit descriptions and icons would both show on the interface bar at the same time.
-Fixed bug targeting Priest, Familiar, Skeleton, and Elementalist right when they die with spells like resurrect and summon skeleton.
-Added map to the story screens.
-Added all new story.
-Updated a whole bunch of the units voice lines.
-Added camera shakes when last boss dies.
-Fix crash bug with familiars when they die.
-Added note about keys for camera tilt and mouse inversion to loading tips.
-Added scarecrow showing up on interface bar for targeting.
-Added Kobold in tutorial showing up on interface bar for targeting.
-Fixed Swordsmen facing the wrong way in tutorial.
-Fixed the shadows on level one facing the wrong way.
-Added F key to toggle health bars.
-Fixed if you summon a skeleton while you have another necro selected with his summon skeleton target up, you will get all the alive units to pop up in the interface bar and you can target any of them and turn them into a skeleton, this works on everyone, include your own units and bosses.
-Fixed game difficulty to make it a bit easier.
-Added keys for camera tilt.
-Improved the bears flame particles.
-Fixed taunt so it does not fail.
-Added new Archer model.
-Added visual signs of injury to units.
-Fixed level 1 to difficulty ramp to make it smoother.
-Added update check.
-Each round now starts with the unlock screen open.
-Added targeting with skills outside of range and the unit will move towards target and then use skill.
-Cleric has a bit more hp (70 instead of 45).
-Units start from the center of the placement box.
-New lock art.
-New Unit descriptions talk about their strengths and weaknesses.
-Increased the overall game speed to give it a quicker pace and better feel.
-Added Camera Tilt.
-Added When Unit's health gets low the health bar flashes.
-Fixed units that are on fire not having flames.
-New flaming bear model.

Marketing and Promotion:
For promotion and marketing we did press releases on our web site and tried to get them to as many news sites as possible.  We did a pad file and submitted to as many shareware sites as we could find although I don't think they had a large effect over all.  We also did advertising in a local print magazine which I don't think had much of an effect either.  Keeping other products and news coming out helped keep people coming to chroniclogic.com and finding Gish.  We also did a number of patches which made improvements to the game.  Each patch was accompanied by a press release.  Winning the Grand Prize and Innovation in Game Design at the 2005 IGF gave us a huge boost in traffic to our website but we could not take full advantage of it as the demo downloads slowed our web server to a crawl.  In a single day after winning at IGF our web server served 110 GB of the Gish demo which was much more then it could handle.  It was after this that I moved all our demo hosting to other servers so if we hit a traffic spike the demo downloads might be slow, but at least the website will still work correctly.  It also seemed a lot of people already knew about Gish before it's triumph at the 2005 IGF.  

Gish won Game Tunnels Game of the Year and Adventure Game of the Year awards in 2004 which added a nice boost in sales.  We also sent out review copies to whatever web pages and print magazines we could find.  Gish scored very well in almost all reviews and even got mentioned in the New York Times.  We also did a number of interviews and Q&As with magazines, websites and local news papers.

I think the single biggest factor in Gish sales was word of mouth.  It is such a unique and fun game that people want to talk about it and they want to tell people about it.  Individuals telling friends, posting on forums, talking about Gish to other games all made a huge contribution getting Gish out to the public.

As you can see Gish did not sell well in retail or on other sites and the majority of income generated from Gish (%67) was from direct sales through chroniclogic.com.  Gish also missed out on a number of opportunities that could generate a lot more income such as North American retail and console distribution because of a lack of a shared vision among the developers.

Check If you have DEP (Data Execution Prevention) turned on for Kingdom Elemental:

Go to the Control panel->System->Advanced tab and click on the 'Settings' button in the Performance box.  Then you click on the 'Data Execution Prevention' tab.

Make sure the first option:

is checked or if you have the 2nd option:

"Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select"

checked add Kingdom Elemental as an exception by clicking:

Step  1:
Make sure you have installed drivers for your graphics adapter from the cards manufacturer, not the default windows drivers for your card.  Most cards will be either:

Make sure you follow the installation instructions to install the drivers correctly.  You will then need to restart your computer before running Gish.


Step  2 - DEMO ONLY:
Go to your "Gish Demo" folder and run the file oalinst.exe to install OpenAL drivers.  This is necessary for the sound and music and can cause Gish to slow to a crawl if not installed correctly.

After recovering from GDC (Game Developers Conference held in San Francisco or San Jose every year) and taking a three week vacation it's back to work.  A lot of exciting things are happen here at Chronic Logic.  Progress continues on a long term project.  We will eventually be posting development information, screenshots and more about the game on chroniclogic.com.  We are also working on a new patch for Kingdom Elemental and will be announcing a retail distribution deal for Kingdom Elemental in the near future!  The Kingdom Elemental patch is going to have a lot of improvements in it which we will be posting soon.  We are still looking for any ideas or feedback from the community.  If you have any feedback or ideas for the patch post it here:

A couple of magazine CD cover deals overseas made up a majority of the non chroniclogic sales income.  I think releasing the OSX and Linux versions and doing patches to improve the look and feel of the game helped extend the product life.

About Kingdom Elemental:
Kingdom Elemental takes place in the world of Eteran.  The world of Eteran is a place of great mystery and intrigue. It is a world home to many different peoples and creatures; some are devious and plotting, others are benevolent and jovial. The world is perfectly balanced in its elements.
