General Discussion / Mac/PC physics/timing difference

I know, sqrt returns a double. I was actually confused because I didn't see things fit together. Have you already tried ((float)sqrt((double)somefloat))?

I got 38.8 http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Edit: In the full version it is collection level 20?

Say you want to do a collection game after you completed 5-5 on ludicrous... and you accidently click new game! No way back...

BCS Support / Help on custom objects
September 10, 2004, 08:45:19 PM
I want to try to create custom objects (vehicles and props). The files are binary, they're full of floats, and I can find some logic in track.pfo, but I don't really get anywhere.

If I figure out something in the meantime, I'll post it here.

BCS General / Changes in next patch?
January 09, 2005, 01:17:21 AM
I'm curious about the changes in the next patch. Some points of my interest:

- Did you figure out anything about the sometimes not working reflections?
- GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR
- FSAA/AF settings
- Textured editing grid. If you use two one-dimensional layers you get higher quality than with AF (if it's enabled it doesn't even do anything) and you save VRAM.
- 80m invisible border

BCS General / How do you flip screenshots?
November 30, 2004, 06:21:48 AM
Just wondering how you do it... I just 'invented' this:
Code Sample
char *row = malloc(width*3);
for(y=0; y<height/2; y++) {
memcpy(row, pix+y*width*3, width*3);
memcpy(pix+y*width*3, pix+(height-y-1)*width*3, width*3);
memcpy(pix+(height-y-1)*width*3, row, width*3);
}
free(row);

It can probably be done faster (after edit I'm not sure), but hey, it works, I made it in 3 seconds or so and it doesn't use much RAM. :-)

Another edit: you can also write the lines in opposite order of course. Not sure how fast that is...

BCS General / Scroll wheel suggestion
August 27, 2004, 12:51:48 AM
The scroll wheel now just moves the cam closer and farther away. If you hold down shift, it only moves away. Wouldn't assigning it to the grid's Z be more useful?

Support for scrolling in lists would also be handy. http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':;):'> If there is more than one list, and at least two of them are big enough to scroll, it should scroll the one you moved the cursor over last.

Miscellaneous / CL seen from a flight simulator
August 10, 2004, 09:06:07 AM
http://home.filternet.nl/~eo000199/jonathan/santacruz1.jpg" border="0">

The box on the center means that I'm flying it with the mouse. The size is actually the limits.

The simulator, http://www.x-plane.com/" target="_blank">X-Plane, is very accurate. That's what it is built for, so the graphics are of lower priority (and everything seems to be kept in VRAM simultaneously...), but not bad. I strongly recommend you to look at it if you are interested in an accurate flight simulator, not just a game like MSFS.

CL: Is your office about there? And if so, can you guess where?

Miscellaneous / OpenGL
December 16, 2004, 07:58:41 PM
I recently started playing with GL. Looks very well-thought. I found the redbook most helpful in getting me started. It just tells you the truth, doesn't hide anything, and doesn't require you to go through it in a specific order.

Tell me if you have any hints, especially if you know border texels. For me the border COLOR shows up instead. Maybe we can exchange information in the future. http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Miscellaneous / Fullscreen on the Mac with the latest SDL
November 12, 2004, 02:45:27 AM
I found http://armagetron.sourceforge.net/" target="_blank">Armagetron a year ago (when I had nearly no programming experience), lost interest and now tried the source. After getting the frameworks and adding the sources which were missing in the pbproj it compiles and runs fine, but crashes when going fullscreen (yes, exactly at that point). It happens in rScreen.cpp:344. The stack trace shows SDL is trying to minimize a window (even when starting in fullscreen). When I use the SDL 1.2.5 framework included with the http://armagetron.sourceforge.net/download_macosx.html" target="_blank">precompiled binary fullscreen works fine. Do you have any idea what's going on? You have Mac games working in fullscreen with SDL 1.2.7 and much more experience after all.

Miscellaneous / Improved ikonboard.css
September 13, 2004, 01:49:22 AM
The creators of Ikonboard certainly can't create clean/optimized HTML and CSS... but anyway, I succeeded in improving it a little.
  • Made code style consistent. So no more color: #000000;, color:#000000; and color : #000000; in one file.
  • Did a few optimizations. Just a few, because I don't know all combinations iB generates... and as I said its HTML is a mess.
  • Should look exactly the same, except...
  • Code iB-tags have monospace font, and all whitespace is preserved. It is code after all.
    Code Sample
    This is such a code-thing
  • Didn't change # styles to . styles, because you would need to modify iB's HTML (id to class).

Miscellaneous / Petals around the rose
September 01, 2004, 01:58:11 AM
I just found http://www.borrett.id.au/computing/petals-j.htm" target="_blank">Petals around the rose. I got it at the fourth roll (so from the fifth on everything was right), don't ask me how.

Maybe I'll write a Java applet for it. I already know Java (not really long), but no AWT or Swing yet, so it will be my first applet. When (if) I have it done, I will put it here. http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
