Hear hear!  H/L cable and Masonry/Reinforced Concrete would be excellent materials for the palette.

Bridgebuilder to Pontifex saw the introduction of cable and heavy steal, as well as explicit deck, great improvements all.
The question is, what else could go in there?  My vote would be for heavy cable and light cable, for use in suspension bridges.  I find I could use heavier stuff for the main cable sometimes http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
Concrete would also be nice: great in compression, lousy in tension (kinda the opposite of cable).

What about toothpicks? If the trends in middle school bridge building projects continue, by the year 2013......

Engineers have been experimenting with composite materials for years. What about carbon fiber decking or kevlar cables???
