Hey everyone,

As some of you know, a special IRC channel is open for the beta testers. But as the beta test comes to an end the channel will also be open for non-beta testers! I hope the people from CL will idle/be active in the channel too like Josiah is/was doing during the beta test.

Questions can be directly asked there and i bet people there will be glad to help you. But if you're lucky someone from CL will be in the channel too and answer your question. Highscores and contests can be discussed, and people who create levels can talk to eachother and send files directly. Just pay a visit and see http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

You can find me there with the nickname: 'hw|Blue'

IRC info:

network: quakenet
channel: #pontifex
(http://www.mirc.com" target='_blank'>http://www.mirc.com for the client)

I was going to reply and say 'Yeah, well, look, I did a /ctcp version of the #linux channel on oz.org', because it's a bit unfair getting voting from a windows site, but I did do that and mIRC was still dominant. So I'll just shut up 8-)

However, I'm going to find an x-chat site with a vote and post that! Hah! 8-)

And for those that have never heard of quakenet, and wouldn't have the faintest idea where to find a server to connect to...

haha http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

You have a point with the quakenet list, so you can stop searching http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> Though I found it more sensible to show people the most used client (for windows). And it has the quakenet servers coded into it.

But when i'm in linux I use some other irc program KvIRC i think.. Though i'm running a vmware station with winME and mIRC

The client contains a list of availeble servers, you only have to select 'random quakenet server' in the list, and press the connect button.

If anyone needs more help just ask here in the topic http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

The channel is not only for people with problems/questions though. Just a hang out for all pfx fans.

Blimey! Anyone might have thought that this was a forum for IRC Client Software ;)

Hehe, mIRC is not THE client, it's A client http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

sigh Gray... http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

I don't know what client you are using gray, but I think most of the people are using mIRC with or without a skin/plugin. So why should I confuse people and offer them (usually) more difficult and less supported software?

mIRC is the easiest client for win32 and most customable too. You can try BitchX or some others... but.. why? http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> My mIRC has a built-in game browser for Counter-strike, and more options I could ever dreamed of  (plugin for mIRC).

I didn't really want to criticise your post's content, it just didn't seem right to me when you called mIRC 'the' client...
Of course, mIRC can be recommended for IRC beginners as 'the' client. Non-beginners know everything themselves http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

P.S. I use Trillian. Of course, it has a lot less IRC features, but they suffice for me, and I think Trillian is the cutest http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

I have been using Trillian for IRC as well, it seems to work good enough.  Its nice to have one program run all your IM's.

Yeah, but X-Chat rocks for people who know what they're doing. Why futz around with all that bizarre mIRC plugin stuff when you can write perl code and it just works? 8-) Mmmm, perl.

Anyway, back to our previously established irc-client-bashing.  Just because mIRC happens to have some IRC networks hard-coded into it (bleck) does not mean that every IRC client has every IRC network hard coded into it. Someone might be at work, not have mIRC, and would have to use a Java client. They might use Mac's at work. They might even run *gasp* Linux! 8-)

--Rob

Edit: I just checked. X-Chat is aware of the existance of quake-net, along with the several hundred other networks it's aware of.  It was quicker for me to google for quakenet, find the server list, and type /server foo.blah.bleck into the server tab. But I'm a fast reader and typer.

Though it's kinda funny writing your own C++ extensions for mIRC  Just put them in a dll and call them from your tcl/tk code. I can even control msn/winamp etc from mIRC.

Oh, check this poll btw http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>  :
