Patch v1.26 not working

When ever I install the Patch (v1.26) Pontifex II stops working.  I can start the game fine, but none of the menu buttons work.  None of them do anything when you click them.  The only one that works is "Exit".

The only way I have found to fix this is to reinstall the v1.1 patch.  

Any ideas on how to fix this?
