They flip over very easily because wheels driven by pistons instantly run at their max speed, so try a slow car first. General-purpose motors consist of 4 pistons, one of each type, connected 5 6 7 8 in clockwise or ccw order, starting at the closest anchor of the wheel.

If you want to do this kind of things, but with more versatility, try the http://www.sodaplay.com/" target="_blank">Sodaconstructor.

DUH they flip over easily.  if i make te green higher, it flips over, but if its too slow, it just goes back and forth very subtly.  ive used that soda contructor, the "piston" things are always confusing and my stuff always falls apart, its so annoying.  what kinda specs should i use for a basic car with a light?  like what weight, piston types, and RBG of the pistons?

Red should be the diameter of the wheels. Green is the number of seconds for a whole rotation. Pistons work reliably when green>=0.25, but I'd start with 2. Blue is the number of rotations, and the special case 0 is infinity. Mass doesn't matter much, but I would spread it equally. If you use 10 per block, you would ideally enter 7.8539816339745 (approximately ;-)) for 1x1 circles, but adjust it to how it works best.

Regarding the Sodaconstructor: read http://www.sodaplay.com/constructor/how/works.htm" target="_blank">how it works, and don't give up!

1. Add an anchor point.
2. Set its RGB to 1, 1, 0 (1 is diameter of wheel, 1 second per rotation, forever)
3. Add a wheel two blocks below it.
4. I'll number the anchors on the wheel (don't confuse with the above anchor point):
  2
5 1 3
  4

5. Add a '9' bar from the anchor point to 1.
6. Add a '5' piston from the anchor point to 2.
7. Add a '6' piston from the anchor point to 3.
8. Add a '7' piston from the anchor point to 4.
9. Add an '8' piston from the anchor point to 5.

You aren't limited to connecting from anchor points, but this is just easiest to explain.

It's not. You just need to understand the basics to build something that works.
