Yeah the mdl files are just a format we created for Pontifex. For Pontifex II we will probably use are own format again, but we have a program that converts from lightwave format that we could release. It will be pretty easy to make your own models for decoration in the level, but vehicles require a physics model. You could replace an existing vehicle model however.

That would rock! And the puffs of steam!
Edit: And how about some more screenshots? Of the editor, maybe? ;)

Sure looks good... I pre-ordered already, but just read that the minimum system requirement regarding processor speed is 500 mhz - i only have a 450 mhz p3 ! plenty of RAM tho (256 megs) and a TNT2 ultra videocard (stop sniggering at the back.). CL, will the game be playable on my system? 'Cause else i should cancel my order

Woops, sorry - i forgot to read the second page in the thread. I can run pfx 1 fine (a tad slow on the larger levels), so i should be all right. Phew.

Wow, so much new stuff... wind and water effects... looking forward to it!
About modding, doesn't the original Pontifex have the train model stored in a .mdl file? Maybe you could use your own models in Pfx1 already?
BTW, a pity the old topic is gone... R.I.P.
Another hack attempt?

Yes that's what I meant. A converter or something to replace the models. The Physics are hard coded i guess. So no *.ini files with the settings? (Just like the free game 'Racer', it lets you import models and set the physics for it).
But i'm looking forward seeing my high poly train in a game
For high end pc's it would be fun to create a high poly set of vehicles, if the converter is availeble I'll be the first one to download it ;)
You should have waited for the pf2 demo perhaps Brinx.
It may indeed run fine, but remeber that the graphics in pf2 are better then pf1. So expect a harder hit on your processor/videocard. Though it may be possible to reduce detail and stuff (like the dynamic lighting)? And the singlebeams do not require as much processing power as the huge blocks of steel in pf1

On my old computer pf1 ran with no problems. Only the 'fast' setting had no effect in speed. With my new one I really see some diffrence
Does that train give out little puffs of steam? That would be cool!

I'm all for that - make it so high a poly count one can actually look inside the train cars and see the terrified look on the passengers' faces
Brinx, if Pontifex runs on your computer then Pontifex II should run as well, you will have to turn off options to get the speed up on a P3 450 though.

I will take a look at it when i'm at home. But if you could.. why didn't any1 else come with a model or something?
So this mac compatible version, is it Mac OS X and will it be in the release on the 17th?
I must admit that one of the reasons that I don't play often is that I don't often use my PC.
Chronic Logic has done it again

i've loved all your other games, and look forward to enjoying Pontifex II just as much
You've done a fantastic job (i can tell), congratulations on another fine effort!!!

Yay for Chronic Logic for doing a Linux port. My Apple friend - the long haried hippy  - wants to know if they have any plans to port it to Mac too.
Some quick comments on the (scant) info released so far.
- LOD landscape - what does this mean?
- Single-link beams - cool. Very BB
- Joints can rotate - also cool. Again, adding the groovy features of BB back in.
- Drawbridges - a function of the rotatable joints?
- Flexible level editing - ooh. can't wait to hear more about this,
In general, looks good. So good that I ordered within moments of hearing about it. For £6. What a bargain.

Just one question: is it possible to buy it and if it doesn't where on my @!*# computer return it? Cause my computer cn't run most apps...
A mac version is mentioned on the
pfx2 info page (and in Josiah's post above), so I guess it's in the works.
LOD (level of detail) landscape could mean that the surface is detailed in the foreground and the parts near the horizon get simplified more and more to improve speed.
P.S. everyone's 'join dates' on this forum seem to be suddenly N/A... must be another problem caused by the recent forum breakdown... wait... CL's own join date is there! weird...
(Edited by Gray at 4:09 pm on Aug. 30, 2002)
Let me guess.. You never bought software before? ;)
When you buy software there is the risk you copy it (duh) so what's the point in returning it. You can't prove you haven't made any copy's. So look at the specs for the game and match them with your computer. Or try the Pontifex 1 demo first. And perhaps the pontifex2 demo later (?).
Here in Holland you can NEVER return software, only if the cd's broken or something and you get a new one (no refund).
Gray, you rock as always.
I really should read things more carefully. I'm looking forward to telling my Long-Haired friend that there will be Mac version. He gets so worked up when games are ported to Linux but not Mac. This will soothe him. We might even get a new member because of it. I'll also be sure to point out the excellent deal whereby you buy Pontifex and get so Pfx 2 for only บ
woody, the Mac OSX version will be released after the Windows and Linux version. This will be a few days to a few weeks after the 17th.
Klei we suggest you check the requirments, and try Pontifex on your computer before pre-ordering Pontifex II, or you can wait for the demo of Pontifex II and try it. If the original Pontifex works on your computer you should not have any problems with Pontifex II.
Gray, we will put up some more screen shots probably next week.
Hope this takes care of everyones questions.
Josiah
Hmm.. 3D max 4.2 can't read mdl files ( i knew that), But even my 3d exploration app can't read the files from pontifex. And it reads about everything 2d/3d. Maybe they've made their own extension wich happens to use the mdl file type?
I'll try Maya later. But I hope they'll use a file type wich 3d max can read in pf2
[update]
Nope.. Maya 4 Unlimited is unable to read the file type either... Maybe Game Studio or something works, but I dont have it.

When will the demo come out?
The demo will be released around the same time as the full version, maybe a few days earlier.

This looks very promissing, I pre-ordered yesterday

I really like the single beams. That's what makes it look like bb. Now the relese date is set, is there still going to be a beta? The beta was set for this week if i remember well.
And is it good for modding? Like adding new trains/cars/boats/textures/landscape etc? I'm a 3d moddeler and it would be nice to see my cars/trains drop of a bridge
