I tried to reply to this topic and I didn't have permission http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Heheh - time to check your setup then!

I am thinking of tying the front page into this news forum were we can provide more information and people can comment on it.  Only Chronic Logic will be able to start new news threads, but all members can reply.

It would probably be a good idea to link this as current news from the front page. It would stop you having to put the same information in different places (and encourage more people to the forums).

You could have another one for current projects (nice to see you are almost ready to port gish to the mac!) ;)

Actually I notice from the current projects that in june you had triptych working on OSX, so where is it?

Do I win a free game because I am the first to find this forum, this message and the patch? http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

I can assure you that you are not the first to find the patch http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Yeah it only took us about 2  years http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>  I want to get Triptych out but I have not had time to look at the bug much.  To busy with other stuff.

Unfortunatly there is never enough time for things. As long as you can get it out on the Mac before MS get longhorn out on the PC you will be doing fine :-)

Yes, it can be pretty slow at times from here. Its never quick.

I was only asking about Triptych as you said it is working, i am not hassling you anymore - I am very impressed you have got BCS and Gish out on the mac.

Gish Support / OSX version is very unstable

I can't really describe it because it's very random.  But it seems to happen mostly when Gish is moving fast.  I have a dual 2Ghz G5 with radeon 9800 pro.

Hi,

If you run the application Console which is in the utility folder of the applications and select the logs button in the toolbar (or select view->Show log list), there is a list of logs. if you open  up ~/Library/Logs and look in there or in CrashReporter, are there any gish.log files?

We are currently working on the OSX and Linux versions.  Hopefully they will be ready next week.  It could take a bit longer depending on how smoothly things go.

Excelent. Looking forward to that.

I am counting the days since you first said the Mac version of bcs would be ready. I think it is about -200 now ;)

But I know what it is like, I am 4 months late on a one month project so I am not critisizing.

Looking forward to gish - loved the demo.

PS - ever thought of updating your current projects page?

General Discussion / Mac/PC physics/timing difference
October 02, 2004, 03:11:12 PM
If all of the maths is done in floats rather than doubles, it might be worth using vsqrtf(vFloat val) instead of sqrt - it is a lot faster and thats where gish seems to spend most of its time.
It is part of the vector libraries (altivec processor unit).
For real performance increase it should be noted that if you can feed the altivec unit fast enough you can do >= 4 vsqrt()s simultaneously with no overhead on the processor.

Well, that worked but then I would assume it is a less timing critical level.
Still a damn site better than I can do!!

General Discussion / Mac/PC physics/timing difference

I think it is more than a mac-pc difference then as when I play that back on my mac you storm round the left, over the top, break the right hand side platforms and end up trapped at the right-middle until it times out.

Unless that is actually what happened I guess there is a processor timing issue in there somewhere!

General Discussion / Mac/PC physics/timing difference

Actually the accuracies for the sqrt functions are the same, but the different compilers convert the double back to a float at different times.  The main problem is Visual C seems to ignore casting a double back to a float, even with optimizations off.  I'm not sure why the Linux and Mac versions are different yet.

If you did the final build on the PC using GCC I assume it would be the same. I also assume the final executable would be slower, so I guess that isn't a good plan!
Presumable linux and the Mac should be the same.

However in this case, My Mac and Jonathans Mac produce different results (I assume).

so there must be some difference in the physics or timing? http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

Where do you see these differences?

BCS Support / Doesn't work on a tablet

OK, that is a much better use of your time. I will stick to pool on the tablet and wait for the mac version http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

BCS Support / Doesn't work on a tablet

Because the mouse positioning isn't tied to the standard mouse it makes the game unplayable with the tablet (as the mouse just spends its time going from corner to corner).
This would be a great game on a tablet - is there any chance of a change to this?
In fact a 'standard' (ie: not all open GL apart from the game) interface would help the game a lot.

Of course, get me my mac version and I will stop moaning http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Well I can tell you we have the MAC in our office now, the only problem is we will not have time to work on it tell after GDC (march 24-27).  We have to basically finish two games before then.   After GDC we will be working on the OSX version http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Excelent. Well my 5 OSX computers are waiting (I know, got carried away and bought some new ones! still, not just me, there are two of us so thats only 2.5 each).
