Miscellaneous / mods
October 16, 2001, 08:56:49 PM
:P

As odd as the author of this forum sounds, I have to agree that mods would be kinda nice. For example, I like dive bombing my bridges with the flying HAV. However, I seem to have troubles stabilizing due to the control scheme. A gyrocopter mod would be kind of nifty, so that I could more or less automatically stabilize. Not to mention that the gyrocoptor might have more than the 16 polygons the HAV does :P

Come to mention it, perhaps a high detail train mod would be nice? Some of us have high end machines, and we want to push them to the point where they scream out for mercy, shouting "Oh, please, no more polygons! I can only take so many! Mercy!"

Just a thought.

So does the "fastest time" bit, as I would imagine.

Maybe just a mini-map? Frankly, I'd love to have that rather than spend forever scrolling. The level designer could of course designate which points it began and ended at, so you don't see the ENTIRE level.

Problems / Alt-Tab Crashes

This is why you never buy an ATI card, aside from the fact that they tend to end up being the size of a postage stamp, and as hot as... something.... really hot!

Or at least the one that CAME with this comp was (before I swapped it for a lovely Ge Force 2) :P

Problems / The HAV goes through the bridge!
October 17, 2001, 07:14:16 AM
I noticed what I can only call a bug. I've seen for a while that if I take the HAV really high up and drop it into the bridge, it goes straight through into the drink below, without causing any structural damage. Because I'm doing this to CAUSE damage, this presents a problem. I believe that the height required to pass through is related directly to the complexity of the bridge, and consequently your refresh rate. However, I'm not sure if its the height, velocity, etc etc etc (its actually probably velocity). Perhaps CL would like to look into this?

Thanks.

General Discussion / Strategies on beginning a level
October 17, 2001, 03:28:07 AM
To be totally honest, after I lay the deck for the bridge (then test it, for good measure and to watch the train go kersplash http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> ) I just think about how I think it ought to be solved, and go about it from there. This explains why when I can't get a bridge to work, I have trouble thinking of radical new ideas of how to make it work. Speaking of which, anyone want to post a pic of how they solved map pack level 3? http://www.pontifex2.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

Mind you, you must press "R" to get back into place. Its no good to place a cable to the space between the supports :P

Erm, I have one where the train moves at a constant speed because the angle is constant, if thats what you mean. If your bridge is, well, flexing as the train moves up, then its certainly not how I solved it. If this answers your question and you want to take a look, mail me at blaargho@hotmail.com and I'll eventually get back to you.
