man.... great thinking on Chronic Logic's part on this one....   here are some examples of drawbridge goodness:

http://www.angelfire.com/indie/theaterensemble/temp/greatmot.pfb" target='_blank'>http://www.angelfire.com/indie/theaterensemble/temp/greatmot.pfb  I love the way this one moves

http://www.angelfire.com/indie/theaterensemble/temp/vertical.pfb" target='_blank'>http://www.angelfire.com/indie/theaterensemble/temp/vertical.pfb   Pulls straight up, fun

you can see why i want to make a cool drawbridge level... medium three is too small......

What is the best free/shareware program to do magic with .gifs?

Strange, they don't work perfectly on mine.  On vertical for instance, the bridge breaks at the joints.  Either in the vertical support there, or some other span.  Instead of using the vertical supports on either side, of the lifting section, I added two more drawbridge sections that pull away from the middle and now it works.  It looks even better in my opinion because it adds a little more complexity to it.
beaujob: I wouldn't mind doing kung-fu in the shadow of a bridge that I built while death and a clown get it on in the bathtub next door, but that's a long ways off.

It's not freeware, but Macromedia Flash is quite good.

Calastigro, I suggest you compress (zip) the bridge files (they shrink to a few K) to make them more accessible.

Flash is not about .gifs at all.

i realised that after i did it, but you see, i'm too lazy to go back and edit it.  i'll compress in the future.

thanks though.

if you can get your grubby mitts on a copy of JASC animation shop (comes with Paint Shop Pro), it has a really neat wizard that makes it exceedingly easy.  there's a trial on Jasc's website, http://www.jasc.com

I've got a problem with your bridge that I also have with my own bridges: How do you tell the program, which of the beams connecting to a joint belong to which part of the deck?

See http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~phjardas/vert.zip

Thanks 4 your help...

You put each picture in a frame, then click Puclish Settings and choose gif and only gif. Click Publish and voila!

Here's what I've noticed.
If a beam is connected vertically upwards to a joint, then it is connected to the left side. And if a beam is connected vertical downwards it is connected to the right side. And of course beams tilting left from the joint is connected to the left side and vice versa.

I'm also enjoying making drawbridges in Pfx2. Here's one weird one, it starts out as a rectangle then deforms into an arch:

spiffy.  drawbridges are fun......

Just a side note: If you want your bridge image more clear you can takee a few images and put them all together to one slowly moving gif.
