On this level, how do you get high enough to get that extra life and get to that second level?  I've gotten close (hit the bottom of the colored blocks) but can't make it

Heavy can do it as well... it's just a little harder.

I found that you can also do it by landing before the breakable blocks, and climbing up with sticky. You have to do it very carefully, since the blocks break easily, but it's possible.

Hold down jump instead of heavy. Don't worry, it's almost as good at stopping you from getting squashed.
